DISTRICTMAIL together with Strand sportswear and equipment company Optimum Apparell, are the main sponsors of the Helderberg Rugby Club's annual Helderberg Sevens Tournament that takes place at the Charles Morkel Stadium on February 15 and 16. Ten local rugby clubs including the host club will participate in this annual event, which this year is being held for the fourth time. This year the event will for the first time be held on Friday evening as well as on Saturday morning. Local clubs who have already indicated that they will be playing are: Helderberg, All Saints, Macassar, Raithby Universals, St. Georges, Strand, Strand United, Strand Pioneers, Sir Lowrians and Whistling Wheels. The action gets underway at the Helderberg Rugby Club's Charles Morkel Stadium at 18:30 on Friday evening and commences at 08:30 on Saturday with the finals at 14:30.

All participating clubs are asked to note that the closing date to pay their entry fees for the tournament is this Friday (February 8) and this must be done at the Helderberg Rugby Clubany time from 10:00.

The draw for the sevens will be held on Monday, February 11 at 20:00 in the Helderberg Rugby Club's committee room.

Each club is invited to send two representatives for the draw. The full programme for the tournament, including kick-off times, will feature in next week's DistrictMail.

Being the hosts, Helderberg Rugby Club will be entering two teams in the competition and the players selected have been training hard for this energy sapping, fast format of the game and spent last weekend at the Lourensford Wine Estate honing their skills.

This Saturday, February 9, Helderberg will be competing in WesBank Malmesbury's first Sevens Tournament.
