Somerset West Golf Club (SWGC) began its Centenary celebrations in style last month following the launch cocktail party with the inaugural Centenary Cup competition.
More than 200 members, golfing celebrities and friends of the club witnessed the opening of the new putting green in front of the clubhouse.
The first putt on the new green was made by Gaynor Rupert, a member of the club, and well respected for her extensive charity work in the Boland.
Patrick Hofmeyr, a past Club Captain, compered the proceedings while Club President, Gavin Murphy, officially welcomed everyone to the launch of Centenary Year.
Gaynor Rupert then unveiled the specially commissioned White Squirrel plaque commemorating the club's first 100 years of existence.
The Centenary Committee Chairman, Derrick Wagenfeld, then outlined the calendar of events for 2008; he stressed the importance of youth to the future of the club, and the club's commitment to a youth golf development programme.
Steve Biggs, the current Club Captain, then unveiled the new SWGC Centenary flag.
No less than 160 members competed in the inaugural Centenary Cup between teams representing the Captain and the Vice-Captain.
The Captain's team was victorious in a closely fought contest.
