    Johannes opens his 'dream gym'
    150208

Johannes Hendriks, well-known body-builder from Macassar, saw his life-long dream become a reality this week when he opened a gym for the Macassar community where he lives. Johannes, who has been the South African Bantamweight Bodybuilding Champion for five years in a row, opened his gym in a disused classroom at the Macassar High School on Monday.

He said he has been so fortunate to have represented South Africa in international competitions (Egypt 2002, Russia 2004, Hong Kong 2005 and the Czech Republic 2006) and he hoped that by starting this gym it would inspire people within his community to achieve greater things.

"I always dreamed of opening a gym in my own community so this is a dream come true."

"The classroom, which principal Yusuf Abrahams is letting me use, was formerly used as a typing room and is no longer in use.

"The equipment was either bought by myself or donated to me."

Johannes said the gym will be open every day from 17:00 to about 20:00 and on Saturdays from 08:00 to 13:00. He said the gym was not only for learners, but for everyone within the community.

Johannes, who has been a bodybuilder for 21 years, said that by starting this gym he wanted to get kids off the street and get inactive people exercising again.

He invited all sportsmen and women to come and use the gym and get into shape for their respective sports. He said he would show everyone how to use the equipment, work out training programmes and explain to people how to eat properly and look after themselves.

For more information, phone Johannes on 084 222 1431.
