    De Beers win 2nd friendly
    140308

De Beers soccer club continued their good display from last week to beat Durbanville 3-2 in their second friendly of the season on Sunday.

De Beers started the brighter and scored early when Byron Graham struck with a looping right footed shot from far out.

De Beers controlled the midfield with captain Steven Britz playing well, Byron Graham and Caleb van Outdshoorn were a constant thorn down the flanks.

John Essien, the Autopage Somerset West man of the match, was the key to victory as his hard work created space and time for De Beers to attack.

A lack of concentration with seconds remaining in the first half allowed Durbanville to level with a great shot into the top corner. The second half started with Durbanville on the attack but these efforts were fielded comfortably by keeper Brandon Graham.

After this De Beers applied pressure and Caleb found Gareth Roelf at the back post, he rose high to power his header home giving the home side a 2-1 lead.

Young Arlyn von Willingh looked menacing up front and he nearly gave De Beers a two goal lead with a great turn and shoot from long range, but the keeper stopped his effort.

De Beers were punished with 20 left when the Durbanville striker weaved his way through the flat footed defence and beat the keeper.

This setback spurred the local boys on and in the last 10 minutes they camped in the opposition's half. They got the winner thanks to a Durbanville mistake - Caleb intercepted and found Nick Solomon inside the box and he slotted home.

Good performances from Wesley Husted, Darel Smith and Craig Porter in defence helped by commitment from all the players saw them to victory. Alex Gomes has stepped in to take charge of the reserve side and in his first game against Durbanville his team drew 2-2.
