Somerset West wrapped up the WP 1C league with a win over neighbours Helderberg at Radloff Park on Saturday and by so doing ensured themselves promotion into the WP 1B league next season.
Helderberg batted first and scored 188/8 in their first innings and at close of play on day one Somerset West were 146/4.
When play resumed last Saturday, Somerset West took their total to 213/8 declared with Larry Morkel (54), Jean Cilliers (41) and Vincent Castle (19) top run scoring in this spell.
Helderberg then went in to bat in their second innings and lost two wickets for 32 runs.
They then consolidated and Grant Moss and Gary Sylvester took the score to 89/3 before Sylvester was out for 46.
Moss continued and went on to score 41 before Helderberg were all out for 162.
Just after this Somerset West's captain, Craig Melvill, asked Jaco Castle to bowl off spinners and Shaun Dicks to bowl cutters.
They bowled well and made runs difficult to come by. Helderberg then closed up shop and were eventually all out for 162.
This left Somerset West 138 runs to win the match with 26 overs remaining.
The best of the Somerset West bowlers were: Jaco Castle 26-8-2-58 (12 of these overs were spin), Vincent Castle 12-5-3-20 and Shaun Dicks 11-6-2-8.
Somerset West got off to a fair start scoring 24 runs in four overs before Matthew Knott was out for 1. They lost a few more wickets fairly quickly and were 64/4 when Jaco Castle and Steven Southey put together a 77 run partnership to take the score to 144/4 and win the match by six wickets with only three balls remaining.
Jaco Castle scored the winning runs with a four which also brought up his 100 (87 balls including 11 x 4's).
With one match left to play, Somerset West are still unbeaten and play their last match against Wynberg at the end of March.
The second team continued their two day match against WPCC away 87 runs behind. WPCC scored 255/9 in their first innings and SW could only manage 168 all out.
In their second innings WPCC scored 224/4, leaving SWCC 311 to win in 55 overs. The top bowler was Francois Kilian with 8-1-35.
SWCC started well with Luigi Scheffers and fellow opener Nicholas Moffit putting on 52 in 8 overs. Scheffers scored 38 and Moffit 32 while Garnet Mons, who played his last game for SW, scored 57. The middle order then went pear-shaped and SW were all out for 168.
The fourth team played Blue Bells at home and recorded a win.
SW batted first and scored 244/8. It was a welcome return for Mike "Sanchez" Harris who scored his maiden ton (106 not out).
Nic van der Vyver chipped in with 24, Tony Olivier with 22 and S Muller with 21. SW then bowled Blue Bells out for 127.
Basil Mentoor took four wickets and Nic van der Vyver two.

Somerset West's u/10's played Primrose at Beaumont on Saturday and won by 149 runs. Somerset West batted first and scored 202/1 with Ben Henderson (53) and Marcus Nel (34) the best batsmen.
Somerset West bowled and fielded well with three run-outs and three catches, restricting Primrose to 53 for 6. The top bowlers were Charles Budd with two wickets and Ben Henderson one.
Somerset West's u/13's beat Ottomans by 58 runs. Somerset West batted first and scored 109/7. The top batsmen were Elliot Moses (51 not out) and Jay Stevens (22). At one stage Ottomans were 20/5 and after 19 overs were all out for 51. The best of the bowlers were: Elliot Moses 4-1-3-10, Jay Stevens 4-2-3-10, P Nienaber 3-2-2-1 and N Locher 3-0-2-10.
The u/11's beat Durbanville by 51 runs. Somerset West batted first and scored 98 in 25 overs. Durbanville were all out for 47.
Top batsmen were: Joshua Withers (22), Henri Marais (23 no) and Shane Williams (17).
