Easter rugby action: The 2008 Top 8 Easter Rugby Tournament presented by St Georges at the Gustrouw Sportsgrounds from March 19 to 24 was a resounding success, with the organising club once again winning the competition after beating All Saints RFC 34-0 in the final.

The tournament was in the form of a knock-out competition and got underway on Wednesday evening with matches between Strand United and St Georges, and Grabouw and Strand Pioneers.

On Thursday it was Belhar vs Strand and Elsies River vs Strand. After a break on Friday, a full programme followed on Saturday, with SARU president Oregan Hoskins and Peter Jooste, convener of the Springbok Selection Panel attending as special guests.

Matches resumed on Monday and included the Plate finals and the final, followed by the presentation of the trophies and cheques. VIP visitors included WP Rugby president Tobie Titus, Springbok coach Pieter de Villiers, Herman Abrahams (Deputy CEO WP Rugby), Jowa Abrahams (WP Executive Member) and referee Harry Abrahams.

According to Terrence Arendse, St Georges RFC tournament co-ordinator, the tournament was well attended by a bumper crowd on each day. The tournament was well attended by a bumper crowd on each day.
