    De Beers win opener
    110408

De Beers started the 2008 season in the best possible way with a 4-0 away win over the hard tackling Norway Parks. Norway Parks proved their reputation as fierce tacklers in the opening minutes with a number of hard challenges to try and rattle De Beers players, but this was to no avail as the midfield stood firm and played their normal passing game.

Most of the first half was played in the middle of the park with both midfields fighting to control the game. Vice captain Scott Austin stood out for De Beers.

The second half started much like the first, but after 10 minutes fatigue hit the opposition and the De Beers wings started breaking down the flanks with ease.

Caleb van Oudtshoorn scored the first goal 15 minutes in, after a great pass from John Essien left the opposition flat footed and using his pace Caleb latched onto the pass and slotted it home. Soon afterwards, Veron Peter made it two with a cool finish just inside the box after receiving the ball from captain Wayne Arlow.

After 25 minutes Bryon Graham broke down the left crossed to Veron, taking one touch, then beating the keeper from ten yards out. The final goal came minutes before the end from a free kick. The ball was clipped in behind the defence by Arlyn von Willingh and the experienced Almiro D'Oliveira lost his marker to find space before heading home with some ease.

The Autopage Somerset West man of the match was Caleb van Oudtshoorn.

The De Beers Reserves found the going tough against Norway Parks and lost the game 4-0. The first half consisted mostly of De Beers defending and giving the ball away to Norway Parks, who scored three goals in the first half. The second half saw a vast improvement from De Beers, but towards the end of the half De Beers conceded a fourth goal. The Autopage man of the match was Jamin Lopez da Silva.

The De Beers third team played Vasco da Gama away and won 2-1.

Ryan Kallis scored the first from a penalty and Juca Malusi the second. Vasco scored a consolation goal with minutes left.
