New centres work wonders for Lowrians
    110408

Sir Lowrians started the new season by sending out an early warning to other teams in their division when they took on the more fancied Whistling Wheels at Kleinvlei and beat them 25-6.

They started the game with a new centre combination of Herman Pretorius and new captain Ashwin Shields (son of rugby legend Hennie Shields).

Lowrians took the game to the Wheels and only some desperate defence kept the visitors at bay. After a full backline move speedster Nippy Coetzee went over in the corner. Flyhalf Enrico Maurice failed to convert. Sir Lowrians forwards were all over Whistling Wheels, but poor handling and wrong options robbed them of more points.

The half-time score was 5- 3 to Lowrians.

After the break Sir Lowrians attacked from all angles and from a set piece just outside the Wheels? 22, Ashwin Shields put Herman Pretorius into the gap. He in turn broke through three tackles to score under the post. Garreth Isaacs converted. Isaacs also slotted a penalty.

Omar Wyngaart then hoisted a high up and under which Wheels could not control. Nippy Coetzee collected and scored in the corner.

The best try of the game came from a full backline move with Herman Pretorius looping around wringer Leon Janecke to outclass the defence and run 55 meters to score the bonus try in the corner to make the final score 25-6. Man of the match was Herman Pretorius.

The Sir Lowrians B team beat their opposition 17-5 and the third team lost 12-0.
