The Strand Surf Life Saving Club's Nippers were outstanding at the recent Nipper National Championships held in Port Elizabeth finishing ninth overall in the country - their first top 10 place in many a year.
This is an exceptional performance from the small local club when one takes into account that 19 clubs and 800 Nippers from all over the country competed in this event.
The Strand Nippers u/10's did the club extremely proud finishing fourth overall in their age group while the u/12's were ninth overall and the u/14's 12th overall.
There was great excitement when the 24 Strand Nippers headed off to Port Elizabeth for the annual Nipper National Champs.
This was also the largest number of Nippers from the club to compete at Nationals for many years.
Strand's Nippers also won three Gold medals, one silver medal and one bronze medal as well as many top 10 positions.
The gold medals were won by Hayley Walker in the u/12 flags (she also won a silver medal in the u/12 Beach Long run), Alegra Dijkstra gold for the u/12 Beach Long run and Louis Maas gold in the u/14 Beach long run.

Nipper u/10 teams
The u/10 teams performed extremely and achieved a 4th place in the Ocean Nipper Relay (Taplin); 5th place in the Body Board relay and an 8th place in the Kneeboard Relay.
The basic aim of the Nipper movement is physical fitness, community education, safe use of the sea and responsible enjoyment of the beach.
The Nipper movement promotes fitness and health while producing top life-guards-in- training for the senior clubs (a 'nursery' for the lifeguards of tomorrow).
The Nipper season ended after the Nationals and will start again at the end of September. The Strand club needs more Nippers to join them and welcomes all new members.
