This was a far better display from Helderberg, who disappointingly drew their previous match at home against N.N.K. last week.
They really improved and were very competitive in all phases and were 19-7 down at the break.
Helderberg's players all seemed to have a fresh approach to the game and did not give away possession and competed well in all facets of play and were particularly committed in their tackles, stopping a very professional outfit, who a mere three weeks ago beat N.N.K. 91-0.
For Helderberg the u/20 player Christo Southey was drafted into the team on the left wing.
Neethling made the 20 metre run to the corner to score.
His flyhalf, Karlo Aspeling, added the conversion to make the score 12-7.
With time running out the home team surged into Helderberg territory to score a converted try to make the halftime score 19-7.
Shortly after the restart Helderberg were awarded a penalty which Aspeling converted to ease the difference to 19-10.
Hammies added a penalty goal to make the score 22-10.
Then, towards the end of the match, the home team, loaded with former provincial players, edged ahead scoring another two unconverted tries and another penalty goal to make the final score 34-10.
After the match the Hamiltons coach admitted that Helderberg's resistance and dour determination was very impressive.
Dour determination
He praised their approach, saying that if they continued playing like this, they would upset many other opponents.
From Helderberg's side the tenacious tackling of their loose forwards, No 8 Charlie Mentoor, and flanks Gary Wiliams and in particular, Gert Rossouw - proved invaluable.
The hard work done by the front row of Eric Coetzee, hooker JG Giliomee and Du Toit Louw and locks De Wet Neethling (captain) and JP Liebenberg showed how formidable they can be when they are as committed.
The Nandos men of the match awards went to flyhalf Karlo Aspeling and flanker Gert Rossouw.
The u/20 A's had another good outing, beating their Hamilton counterparts by 19-10, which improved their log position to fifth.
The only Helderberg try was scored by right wing Elmar van Niekerk, with scrumhalf Erick Philander adding the rest of the points with four penalties and a conversion.
Here the Nando's awards went to lock Rocco de Villiers and winger Elmar van Niekerk.
