THE GORDON'S Bay Yacht Club Lipton Cup Campaign got off to a great start on Wednesday, June 18 when the club received a substantial sponsorship.
The GBYC committee members would like to thank Nic and Nico van Wyk from Cape Waste Paper for their generous sponsorship.
The sponsors and the GBYC Lipton Cup team were introduced to the members of the club on Wednesday, June 18.
Tony and Wendy Burkitt also made a kind donation to the Lipton Cup campaign.
Young team
This year the GBYC will be entering a young team into the the race with three of the members never having competed in a major regatta before.
The Lipton Cup is the premier sailing event on the South African sailing calendar and yachtsmen regard it as a privilege to compete in this race.
One of the Gordon's Bay Yacht Club crew members, Graham Morrisby is only 18 years old while another crew member, Anri Pienaar is only 16 and is also one of the youngest sailors in the event.
The GBYC Lipton Cup Team members are: Gavin Cosgrove (manager), Jan Delport (skipper), Peter Hamersma, Kim Davies, Graham (Snake) Morrisby and Peter Hamersma.
