DE BEERS first team went down three nil to Norway Parks (Parks)in the league cup clash on Saturday making this loss the fifth in a row.
Their finishing in front of goal was their downfall once again, missing several great opportunities to score, on two occasions from a few metres out.
With morale down from therr last match, they needed to collect a win against a team they beat 4 nil at the start of the season.
In the first half the De Beers defence was under pressure and they then reshuffled their formation to a more defensive format.
Parks took the lead early when the unmarked striker found himself with a one on one and finished calmly.
Within ten minutes Parks extended their lead after a corner the ball landed in front of an unmarked striker and he prodded home from close range.
De Beers were able to muster up very little in the first half, only half chances.
They however looked better in the second half and played with more determination.
The introduction of Malcolm Stuurman at half time sparked some life back into the team and several chances were created, unfortunately with no end product.
Chance after chance went a begging as Mario Bougaard, who was playing a blinder, supplied many chances for his strikers, thus receiving the Autopage Somerset West man of the match award for his efforts.
Craig Porter was also outstanding at left back.
Norway Parks finished off the home side late on, beating the offside trap to win the match 3-0.
Second half of season
De Beers will have to re-group during the break and come back strong to avoid relegation.
Coach Mark Lansdell will be expecting some character from his players for the second half of the season.
The De Beers third team were unlucky to go out of the cup to Rygersdal and it took a last minute goal to defeat them. De Beers hit the break one up thanks to a Sean Scrace Screamer from 35 yards. Two goals late in the match was enough for the away team.
Last weekend De Beers u/9A's hosted Edgemead in what is usually a tightly contested match.
With the midway point of the season approaching, a lot was expected from the A side after their impressive 4 wins 1 draw and 1 loss to date.
Not to disappoint, the boys came out strong from the first blow of the whistle and within two minutes
Edgemead Lawrence put them 1-0 up after slotting the ball into the back corner after breaking down the left.
Joshua de Vreitas and Sam Henderson were again making the midfield their own with some hard tackling and pin point passing causing the Edgemead boys reason for concern as possession was becoming all De Beers.
Continuing with the momentum Nathan completed his hat-trick before half time and the boys went into the break 3-0 up. The game continued in the same way with Edgemead beaten to every challenge and this gave way for Sam, Luke and Nathan to find a further goal a piece in the remaining time.
Francis Christie kept another clean sheet in goals giving De Beers a crushing 6-0 win over their arch rivals.
The u/9B's also came away victorious with a 3-0 win taking there standings to seven wins from seven games.
