HCDC squad return home from England triumphant
    250709

HELDERBERG Cricket Development Centre's squad of u/13 cricketers recently returned home after a successful tour of England where they played three matches and won two.

The team were to have played five matches, but two of the games were rained out.

While still in England, the DistrictMail reported that the boys had played against a powerful Surrey Country Cricket Club team which they lost by four wickets and against Sanderstead Cricket Club which they won by 33 runs.

Their third match was against Purely Cricket Club which they won by 10 wickets.

They bowled their hosts out for 89 runs with the top bowlers being Revelen Jacobs 3-15, Thabang Mtyobile 2-10, Schoeman Botha 2-12 and Nico Nel 2-15.

The Helderberg boys scored 90 without loss in their innings.

To give a few more boys a chance at the crease, some of the batsmen were retired after scoring 20 odd runs.

The top batsmen in this game were: Schoeman Botha (20 not out), Ismaeel Gafieldien (25 not out), Jay Stevens (20 not out) and Jonathan Sloan (20 not out).

Coach on tour, Matthew Knott, said all in all it was a very successful tour and one which the boys thoroughly enjoyed.

He said the boys were a little disappointed that they were unable to play their other two matches, but did have a chance to meet, talk to and attend a Proteas practice.

The boys had a chance to enjoy some sightseeing, and travel on underground trains and in buses. All agreed the tour would be something they would remember for years to come.

The Helderberg Cricket Development Centre is currently open for all pre-season net practices.
