A new residential develoment was launched in Grabouw last week. Developer Johan Combrinck says as far as he knows, The Oaks is the first lockup-and-go security complex in the town.
Situated on the corner of Hofmeyer, Ebenhaeser and Molteno Streets, the 12 unit complex is situated on land that formerly was home to the PPECB conference centre. The foundation stone of the main building - at the time to serve as the "Interdenominational Coloured School" - was laid in 1946 by one Mr B Le Roux.
The existing buildings have been retained and upgraded into one, two and three-bedroom sectional title apartments varying in size from around 64m² to just under 120m².
According to Combrinck, he is optimistic that despite a depressed property market, Grabouw will attract investor interest through the development of a major shopping centre just off the N2, on the outskirts of the town, as well as plans to revitalise among others the town's infrastructure as part of the Development Bank of SA's "Sustainable Communities Pilot Programme". Grabouw is one of six towns in the programme.
Each unit at The Oaks has a parking bay and additional parking can be purchased for R30 000 each.
Prices per unit vary between R499 000 and R999 500 and the approximate levies between R591 and just over R1000 per month.
Apart from being a gated complex, there's also a pool for the convenience of residents.
