End of an era for De Beers
    260908

Mark Stuart AS a mark of respect for the 106-year-old De Beers (AFC) the Cape Town Tygerberg Football Association (CTTFA) have awarded the club the honour of hosting the knockout finals this Saturday.

These league knock-out finals will see the top two teams from each of the 17 leagues play against each other in the knock-out finals.

The top premier division game promises to be the highlight of the day. In this game the log leaders Durbanville will be playing against underdogs FN Rangers who are placed ninth on the log.

De Beers are expecting over 1 000 people to converge on the club to watch the matches and join in the festivities. The entertainment planned for the day includes a beer tent, jumping castles and a number of food stalls.

All visitors are welcome to attend and entry will be R20 per car (R50 a taxi and R100 per bus).

Although none of the De Beers teams made it through to the knock-out finals to be played at their club on Saturday, the De Beers Colts Team will be playing in the knock-out final of this league against Rygersdal away on Friday night at 20:00.

This team, which is coached by Pepe dos Santos, have had an excellent season to date and are the only De Beers team playing in the knock-out finals and also the only team playing in the finals away from their club.

    Colt's goalkeeper
The present De Beers first team goalkeeper, Brandon Graham, who played for the Colts for a number of years, recently signed a deal with the Cape Town First Division Club, eKapa.

This club play in the Mvela league and Pepe is convinced that Brandon will one day play goalkeeper for Bafana Bafana.

Pepe would like to remind all junior players from u/16 to u/19 of his annual Soccer Clinic to be held from October 5 at De Beers from 10:00.

Part of the reason that De Beers were asked to host this prestigious CTTFA knock-out competition is because it is an end of an era for the club. They will be moving from their present grounds, some time next year.

The new location for De Beers will be in the centre of the new Paardevlei Development and the new state of the art clubhouse and facilities (which includes four fields) have the potential of being a possible 2010 soccer training facility.

All present and old De Beers players, officials and De Beers opposition players are invited to De Beers on Saturday for one last time.

The club intends to put on a special "Thompson - Snoek starter" and give the club a big send off from this historic site.

All invited parties may call Colin Wyatt on 082 377 4566.
