Avril Small from Gordon's Bay writes: I would just like to thank the very kind gentleman who phoned me after 21:00 on Christmas Day to say he had picked up my Jack Russell, Milo, running around, absolutely frantic, on Faure Marine Drive.

Some irresponsible person decided to let off fireworks after 21:00.

I thought Milo was inside the house, but she evidently got out somehow and went beserk. He very kindly took the trouble to deliver her back into my arms!

I was traumatised and did ask for his name, but now I'm not so sure if I remember correctly.

I think it was a Mike de Vries. Please if you can remember this incident, contact me - I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your kind gesture. IAN GREER writes: On behalf of the Committee of Helderberg Street People's Centre and myself, may I express out heartfelt thanks to the community of the Helderberg.

We were overwhelmed by the support and kindness of individuals, families, churches and local businesses in response to our appeal for chickens to help feed the impoverished, destitute and needy over Christmas. We in fact fed some 800 people at the centres in Somerset West and Sir Lowry?s Pass.

In addition, food parcels were delivered to 100 ill households, in Pinkster and Chris Nissen Parks, as well as Sir Lowry's Pass Village. It is so wonderful that we were able to share the joy of Christmas and thank you for making it possible.

Our thanks in particular to Shoprite Checkers and Seeff Somerset West, for their wonderfully generous donation of chickens. Thank you to Rose McFall Properties for their donation of cup cakes at the Sir Lowry?s Pass Christmas party.

We are grateful too for the many people in our community who took the time and trouble, despite the inevitable pressures of the season, to cook chickens. And thank you to those who sacrificed spending on other items, to make a donation to the Helderberg Street People's Centre. Finally, may I express deep appreciation of our cheerful volunteers, who even served lunch on Christmas and New Year's Day! We have much to celebrate as a community, not least the fact that we are able to work together to make a difference in the lives of those who are in need.
