Sue Venter writes: I am sending this letter on behalf of my sister, Gill Hollands of Hailsham, East Sussex, UK, who is out here in Somerset West on a three month holiday. Gill writes: "My husband and I are visitors who have been coming to your beautiful country for many, many years. We are staying in the Strand in a flat on the seventh floor of an apartment block and it becomes a huge problem for us to access our holiday flat when there are power outages.

We were horrified to find that the power cuts are still ongoing since last year. My husband has a heart problem, I have a pacemaker and have had two knee replacements - all of which restrict our mobility somewhat. We have recently heard from friends in the UK that news of these power cuts have received wide publicity there and no doubt in other parts of the world. This problem must be urgently dealt with before it starts to affect tourism in South Africa, especially as you are hosting the 2010 World Cup soccer. If this state of affairs continues it may, reluctantly, be our last visit to your country, a country we have grown to love so much.
