JH from Somerset West writes: I am writing this in the hope that my experience will prevent others from becoming victims of the same or similar scams.

As I left the Post Office last Friday morning, I was unexpectedly confronted by what appeared to be a minor accident in the doorway.

An elderly man who was positioned just outside the door, had dropped some documents, apparently by accident and was leaning over them as if to pick them up.

As I sidestepped to avoid him, another man who happened to be standing on the other side of the door suddenly stepped forward, placed his foot on my shoe and held it there. I was surprised and assumed that he was concerned that I would step on the documents.

This state of affairs lasted for four to five seconds. During this time I was aware of a third person standing very close and just behind me.

He had actually bumped into me lightly and I assumed he had been surprised by my sudden stop. The second man then apologised to me and removed his foot.

As I got into my car, I realized that I had been the victim of pickpockets.

Be warned, especially when wearing loose fitting clothing, which makes it easier for thieves to rob you.
