"SLEEPLESS" from Bizweni writes:
On Friday, March 28, the infernal racket emanating once more from one of the clubs at the Bizweni end of Main Road in Somerset West was nothing short of obscene!
Music was blaring, bass beat thumping and the DJ shouting over his microphone. This appalling din continued until about 02:00 Saturday morning when the sound was either stopped or obliterated by the noise of squealing tires, revving motors and what sounded like drunken shouting along the road in the vicinity of the hospital.
Why should residents of the surrounding areas near those clubs have to put up with this? What about the old folks in retirement homes who pay a fortune to be looked after and for whom sleep does not come easy? Do they have to become sleeping pill addicts to overcome the noise from the music, the vehicles and the drunk and often drugged clubbers?
The folk who live in the vicinity pay rates and taxes, unlike the youth who frequent those clubs.
Has anybody told the clubbers that continued noise at those levels will send them looking for hearing aids in the not too far-off future? The club owners and the Liquor Board have a lot to answer for so far as the honest and sleepless house owners are concerned.
The police can apparently help control the noise from within the clubs, but have no control over the noise from outside them.
If the youth can afford bikes and cars to get as far as the main precinct of Somerset West, they can afford to drive further.
How about moving them, clubs and all to the industrial area far away from residential areas and hospitals? The present situation is nothing short of illegal (noise pollution) and disgraceful.
