A short lawn will survive the wet winter months
    220607

THERE is a big difference be-tween roll-on lawn and instant lawn. Roll-on lawn consists of huge rolls of lawn that they literally role out. You need a crane truck to off-load these rolls, but the resulting product will be very even from day one. Instant lawn is chunks of grass that is packed together by hand. Instant lawn will always be uneven after two months or so, unless the job was done by professionals.

To lay instant lawn that will look beautiful after two months takes a lot of time to do the preparation and the actual laying of the grass, there is no quick fix.

If your lawn is uneven the one option is to put top dressing on it and the second and best option is to scarify the lawn before you put the top dressing on.

This method will ensure a good looking, very even and healthy lawn.

Instant lawn is by far the cheaper option and can look just as even as roll-on lawn, provided the job was done right the first time.

If ever you want to change your garden in the sense of taking grass or shrubs out and putting pebbles in its place, now is the time to do it. A good option is to replace the grass under trees that battles to grow, with pebbles. Pebbles look natural and apart from that are not so expensive and will last for years, provided it is put in the correct way.

A good idea is to take the grass out that leads to your front door and replace the grass with pebbles and stepping stones. This will ensure your house and carpets are free of mud during our winter rains.

The rest of your lawn will get enough water during the winter months and weeds are not so active. Now is the best time to put weed killer on the weeds and fertilise your lawn for the winter. Make sure you put the correct fertiliser on.

During the long cold and rainy winter days your lawn should be cut very short to prevent the roots from rotting. Cut your lawn as short as possible and turn the sprinkler cycle down.

The sun is not so severe in winter and very little water is needed from your sprinklers, the occasional rain should be enough until the end off August.

If you have any questions about this topic, you may contact the offices of Green Green Grass on (021) 856-3424 or book to have your lawn scarified by August/September.
