THE Cape Town Flower and Garden Show returned to Lourensford last month for the annual exhibition of top garden designs of local and international garden designers and landscapers.
A brand new garden centre in the Helderberg region, Mondeor garden & life, presented its first show garden to the media and public, just three weeks after opening for business.
They were awarded a bronze medal for their eye-catching design. Owners and designers, Annette and Dawid van der Merwe, found their inspiration in the minimalism of the Northern Cape landscape and the beauty of the quiver tree.
Twenty-four baby quivers were symmetrically placed in rusted containers on a base of gravel. Accompanying these were round bowls filled with echeveria and two unusual pod chairs. These chairs were a hit with visitors, and were tried out by many - probably also a chance to recover from heat-exhaustion. Mondeor garden & life is situated just off the N2 at Mondeor Road, near Monkey Town. Apart from a wide range of feature and filler plants, they also offer light meals and sweet treats in the restaurant and must-have goodies in their gift shop. The centre is open every day of the week, Monday to Sunday, from 09:00 to 17:00.
