    EXTERRA action ends in Grabouw
    13.04.2007

TOP XTERRA athletes have entered the concluding stages of their strenuous training programmes in preparation for the anticipated DUESOUTH XTERRA South African final presented by Nissan, which returns to the majestic Grabouw Country Club on Saturday, April 14.

The DUESOUTH XTERRA South African finals form part of the XTERRA Global Tour. All competitors will have the opportunity to qualify for the world championship final in Hawaii.

The global series span more than 90 qualifying events in 13 countries and take competitors to some of the most spectacular and challenging courses around the globe. The Global Tour kicked off in July 2006 in Knysna as part of the Knysna Oyster Festival and stage two saw athletes battle it out at the beautiful Shongweni Dam in KwaZulu-Natal in December 2006.

This was followed by the action-packed third stage during the Gauteng debut at Buffelspoort Dam in February. The venue lived up to the XTERRA name, resulting in many experienced athletes having to pull out of the race due to punctures, crashes, broken chains and derailers. Once again proving that race motto of always expecting the unexpected with XTERRA.

The South African final, presented by Nissan, is the perfect endurance challenge for outdoor enthusiasts and serious athletes. Individual athletes as well as teams of three can compete in the XTERRA, which includes a 1,5 km swim, 30 km mountain bike route and 12 km trail run.

Newcomers to the sport can compete either as individuals or in three-member teams in the DUESOUTH XTERRA LITE, consisting of three disciplines, namely a 400 m swim, 14 km mountain bike and 6 km trail run. Sport enthusiasts and energetic runners not quite ready for the full-scale challenge of XTERRA can whet their appetites with the 6 km and 12 km NEW BALANCE XTERRA Scramble.

Top athletes that will battle it out for the coveted individual men?s title and automatic qualification for the world championships in Hawaii, include two-time-XTERRA World Champion Conrad Stoltz, Lieuwe Boonstra, Dan Hugo, Iain Don-Wauchope, Kent Horner and Tyronne White. The reigning individual women's champion, Michelle Lombardi, will offer other female competitors like Hanlie Booyens, Carla Germishuys and Jeannie Bomford tough competition.

NH The Lord Charles Hotel will be hosting the DUESOUTH XTERRA Night of the Champions dinner on April 14 and invites all athletes and spectators to attend.
