VANDERBIJLPARK. - Jomo Cosmos boss Jomo Sono has once again proved to be a dominating figure in South African football when it comes to discovering new talent.
Bongani Theletsane (19) is the latest exciting local youngster who caught Sono's eye. Speaking to Weekly Sport, Theletsane says that it is a great honour to be playing for a team that is owned and coached by one of South Africa's soccer greats. "If you play for Cosmos it means that you have exceptional talent. It is well known that Bra J produces the best players some of whom went on to have successful soccer careers overseas. When he approached me, I never thought twice about joining Cosmos," says Theletsane.
He says that his only disappointment is to not have been able to see his mentor playing. "I know that he is one of the greatest players South Africa has ever produced, but the sad thing is that I had no chance to see him playing, because by the time I was born he had already retired from football."
Theletsane, who started his amateur soccer career with Celto Figo, says that he has two goals - playing for the U/23 national team and to help his team bounce back to the Premier Soccer League at the end of the First Division season.
Local soccer fans will be able to witness the masterful Theletsane and his teammates in all their glory, as Cosmos will play their First Division League matches at the Isak Steyl Stadium.
