EVATON - A tragic story of a man who went to sleep in a perfectly healthy condition,only to be found dead without a nose on Tuesday left the community reeling in shock.
The disturbing news then flew around Evaton like a wildfire, sending residents into panic mode.
Apparently the old man suffered from epilepsy.
According to stall seller near the man's house, the old man usually passed by everyday on his way to the shops. "He did not come out for the whole of Monday and then on Tuesday morning we got the message that he had died and that his nose was eaten by rats," says the stall seller.
It appears that the old man was found dead and without his nose. It is not clear whether rats killed him or if they merely attacked his body.
There was no blood found on the man's clothes. Police were summoned to the scene after the body was found and investigations are ongoing.
Police Spokesperson Inspector Molefe Mokoena confirms the incident, "The old man's corpse was without a nose." Mokoena says that at this stage Police are forced to wait for the post-mortem.
