This week's heading is a theme adopted for Women's Month by the Sedibeng District Municipality. I had the opportunity to deliver a message at the "Women in Prayer" gathering in Heidelberg. This historic event was the brainchild of Councilor Kedibone Mogotsi, executive speaker of the municipality. The aim was for churches to pray for social ills such as infant killings, rape and women abuse.
To me the inclusion of an event of this nature in the regional program was a challenge to the church regarding the increase of such suffering. Needless to say, I did seek the heart of God so that I will not respond out of my bitterness for perpetrators of these crimes.
This is to the church: "I tell you the truth, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy. A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come, but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world."
I speak as a prophet when I say that this is not the time for you, the church, to be dismayed and despondent. Remember that the Bible refers to the church as a bride, a woman. Note that the suffering happens because your time has come. Do not lose focus just because evil is getting worse. You cannot be passive or give in because the pain is intense.
On the other hand, you were not meant to grieve forever. To experience the joy you will have to endure the pain until the child is born. Who is this child? The child is every sinner who repents. Therefore go ahead and preach the gospel of salvation as if there is no tomorrow. As much as there is rejoicing in heaven when one sinner is saved, so you shall be fulfilled the more people turn to God.
Let him who has an ear hear what the Sprit of the Lord is saying to the woman, the church.
