SEDIBENG. - Sedibeng soccer fans are in for a feast! This is because the relegated Jomo Cosmos will use the Isak Steyl Stadium in Vanderbijlpark as home ground for their first division league games.
Now local soccer fans can see homeboys Avril Phali and Lucky Mhlathi, who started their soccer careers in the Vaal, in action right in their backyards.
Club boss Jomo Sono describes the Vaal as a happy hunting ground for his team.
He says that the area has been good for him because he has scouted some very valuable players here, referring specifically to Augustine "Mthakathi" Makalakalane, Mabena "Love" Monnakgotla and Bafana Bafana captain Aaron "Mbazo" Mokoena.
Sono has no doubt that he will get great support from local soccer fans. "We could have gone to another region, but the Vaal is always close to my heart. Vaal is one of the best regions in terms of producing players," says Sono.
Cosmos will be playing their opening game of the 2008/09-soccer season against Witbank Spurs on August 30.
Some more good news for Sedibeng soccer fans is that there will also be other Safa Vodacom Promotional League games played in this region. Spectators can look forward to watching Emfuleni Real Barcelona and VUT FC in action, as the two sides are playing in the Vodacom League.
There will also be Safa Vodacom Provincial Women's League games played in this region. Bophelong Ladies and VUT Ladies FC will proudly represent Sedibeng in the Gauteng League.
* Meanwhile, Barcelona played to a goalless draw against Soweto Panthers in the Safa Vodacom Provincial Promotional League at the Dick Fourie Stadium on Sunday. This is the second game of the season that Barcelona draws, seeing as they played to a 1-1 draw against Yebo Yes United in their opening league match at the Dick Fourie Stadium two weeks ago. Barcelona will travel to Johannesburg to face Lecitano on Sunday.
