That is what Mr Martin Brink of Mr Recycle wants to do in Stellenbosch. He is offering a weekly pavement recyclable waste collection service in Stellenbosch.

Although Stellenbosch Municipality implemented the system of blue bags for recycling purposes a while back, it is still only functioning in a limited number of Stellenbosch neighbourhoods.

The arrival of Mr Recycle, who has been operating in Somerset West, Strand and Gordon's Bay for the past five years, is there?fore most welcome, as most environmentally conscious residents would rather avoid adding their recycling waste to the municipal landfill in Devon Valley, which is al?ready overextended.

Brink says: ?The household waste that we remove is sorted at our premises in Somerset West, from where different recycling firms collect specific waste. The recycling industry provides jobs ? every kilogram counts and makes a difference to a worker and his family ? and minimizes waste at landfills.?

According to Brink, Mr Recycle? will collect waste for recycling purposes, including glass, cardboard, paper, tins and plastic, on the day before the Municipality collects household refuse. However, in those areas where the Municipality collects refuse on a Monday, Mr Recycle will do its rounds on Tuesdays.

Mr Recycle's rates are R260 for a 12-month period (52 collections at R5 each), R208 per 6-month period (26 collections at R8 each) and R40 per month (4 collections at R10 each). For more information, call 079 138 9262 or send an e-mail to mrrecycle@gmail.com.
