    This Picasso a nippy performer
    ?N LITTLE

CITROEN has laid claim to being distinctly individual since 1919. Their latest creation, the Citroen C4 Picasso, continues the tradition of bold curvaceous styling as did its predecessors, the Light 15, ID 19 and Club sedans.

Dubbed as a family space wagon, the new C4 Picasso 1.6 HDi 4-cylinder Turbo Diesel proved to be full of surprises, providing nippy performance, excellent roadholding and a combined fuel economy figure of 5.9 litres / 100kms from a 60 litre fuel tank.

What impresses one is just how smooth and quiet the C4 Picasso is.

Much of this can be attributed to double-seal barriers on the doors, comfortable soft seating and a very absorbent suspension system. From the moment that one climbs behind the tilt and reach adjustable electric variable power steering column, everything is within easy reach.

The centrally positioned full-digital dashboard display is as modern as they get, and the automatic electronic parking brake a cinch to operate.

Luxuries come in the form of front loader CD with MP3, 4-Zone air-conditioning with dual controls, refrigerated glove box, sunblind curtains on rear side windows, multi-function display and cruise control / speed limiter.

The new C4 Picasso also has all the latest safety technologies such as side impact protection, speed sensitive windscreen wipers, seven airbags, show-me-home headlights and hill start assist, which together with ABS, EBD and EBA gives the Citroen C4 a 5 Star Euro NCAP safety rating.

Of course space is the big selling point in the newcomer, a total boot capacity of 500 litres being available when the three independently adjustable rear seats are laid flat with the floor.

There is also a Modubox which comes in very handy. This item comes in the form of a trolley featuring solid frame and a soft bag, and together with hidden storage boxes in the rear floor allows for versatile packing when required.

Driver visibility is excellent, a height adjustable driver’s seat combining well with oversized quarterlight vents and a massive amount of heat resistant tinted glass which makes-up the expanse of the windscreen.

Rear vision when reversing is also clear, again thanks to a large rear screen and well positioned exterior door mirrors.

An attractive range of body colours are set-off by eight-spoke alloy wheels, bright chrome bonnet badging and elegantly slanted headlights.
