    What would the parents think?

I WAS absoluteley shocked when I walked past the Sunningdale pharmacy in the Parklands Centre on 21 August and I saw a white VW Polo Classic (older model) parked just off the door to the pharmacy with a baby in the front seat in its baby seat that was not strapped in.

There were four other children in the back without seat belts, but that was not the worst of it. The driver, an elderly lady came out of the pharmacy while I stood watching the little ones to make sure that they were safe. The keys were still in the ignition, the window of the driver side down, which would give anybody the opportunity to just jump in and drive off with all these little ones still inside.

When the “daymother” came out, I said to her that she should not have left the little ones alone in the car, her response was: “If you’re desperate, you do not have any other choice.”

Nonsense! I know that pharmacies deliver medication.

What will the parents think or do if they were to walk past that car and see their children unattended?

I know – a nice old aunty around the corner that reminds you of granny to take care of your toddler – sounds great, but when she has to drive somewhere, who will take care of them? Will they be strapped in safely in carseats or left unattended in a parking area?
