STRONG running by the two crack Tygerberg master (40+) women athletes, Sheryl de Lange (Ned) and Mariëtte Esterhuyse (Tyg/NL), enabled them to fill the top overall spots in the women’s division of last Saturday morning’s Atlantis Harrier road race over 15 km.
Eventually De Lange (62:38) managed to edge out Esterhuyse (62:47) by only 9 seconds to earn the laurels. The duo also claimed the top positions in their age category. Joanne Wynne (Dur, 8th in 73:43) and Lindie Bouwer (Sanlam, 10th in 73:59) also earned places among the top ten finishers.
Runner-up in 78:43 in the division for masters (50+) was Helen du Plessis (Tyg/NL), with Doris Flink (East) 3rd in 81:29. The Tygerberg trio of Priscilla von Schlicht (Tyg/NL), 1st in 78:23), Marianne Nelson (Dur, 2nd in 90:07) and Dot Pickett (W.Coast, 3rd in 91:39) made a clean sweep of the top positions in the masters’ (60+) category. Tygerberg/Northlink won the team competition for both seniors end masters.
Best Tygerbergers in the men’s race were Francois Laubscher (Edgem, 9th and 1st master (40+) in 55:34), Willem Swanepoel (Brack, 16th in 57:40), Peter Bunn (Edgm, 10th in 59:00) and Muhmmad Kriel (Ned, 20th and 1st master (50+) in 59:36).
Kriel’s club mate Carl Hendrick won the division for masters (60+) in 74:13, with Ray Shooter (Edgem) 3rd in 77:39.
