    Classic rock at the Barnyard

THE hit Barnyard show Rock Me Amadeus, in which Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart comes back to life as a sexy, romantic dead composer who has finally been given the chance to rock and roll, can be seen from this week at the Barn?yard Willowbridge.

Rock Me Amadeus, directed by Ian von Memerty for The Barnyard Theatre Production Company, features ten musicians and singers who are all superb at their craft as they run through more than 30 songs. From the opening chords of Mozart’s “Eine kleine Nachtmusik” until the closing bars of Bob Seger’s “Old Time Rock And Roll”, Amadeus takes the audience on a journey through four decades of rock and soul, with a few classical hits to spice up the show.

Throughout this two-hour musical extravaganza the audience has a superb showcase of music where Bach meets Pink Floyd and Amadeus rocks to the music of Stevie Wonder, Meatloaf, Sugarbabes, Vanessa Mae, Kelly Clarkson, Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson, Shakira and many more!

What will Amadeus make of these classics of the rock and soul genre? His famous “Rondo Alla Turk” running into South Africa’s own anthem, “African Dream”?

Well, why not? And that sets the scene for Amadeus conducting the Can Can, and joining the band in the Electric Light Orchestra classic, “Rock and Roll is King”.

The result is a great variety and incredible fidelity to the originals as well as a consistently high standard of musicality, both instrumental and vocal.

From the moment the lights go down, Rock Me Amadeus delights its audience with a good variety of music ranging ballads, rock, soul, African, disco, rhythm and blues and even rap!

For bookings and enquiries, phone the Barnyard Theatre on 021 914 8898 or e-mail willowbridge@barnyardtheatres.co.za for more information.
