    Help at hand for youngsters

ONE of the things that dog young South Africans and their parents, often with sleepless nights, is successfully passing the tricky K53 South African driver’s licence test.

Many youngsters stumble over the final hurdle of successfully passing that test at their first try.

Perhaps it is because of the stress of going through this entire process that they fail to do that one more check of the blind spot or allow their car to roll backwards at an incline, which leads to failure.

Now there may be a solution. Well-known TV and radio personality and veteran motoring journalist Hendrik Verwoerd has teamed up with a number of partners to make it easier for prospective drivers.

Producing a DVD called Passing Your SA Driver’s Licence Test, they provide a visually attractive and accurate step-by-step guide to exactly what prospective drivers can expect when they go for the test, which can be watched over and over so that youngsters can approach the test with confidence.

“It is very important to us to make a contribution towards producing properly trained young drivers in South Africa,” says Verwoerd, presenter on the popular Car Torque motoring programme on SABC3 with advanced driving experience of almost 25 years.

“This in no way replaces proper driver training at recognised driving schools, but reinforces exactly what learner drivers can expect on test day. We filmed the full test in conjunction with one of the most well-known driving schools in South Africa and follow the K53 test to the letter.

“Prospective drivers will find the DVD extremely useful before they go for their first driving lesson and especially in the period leading up to the actual test.”

The DVD is available at R79,95 from www.videocars.co.za/k53 (where an abridged demo version can also be viewed), or via e-mail to ben@videocars.co.za. – (Correspondent)
