    Fan parks earmarked for 2010

THE City of Cape Town has earmarked the Grand Parade and Athlone Stadium in the Mother City as fan parks for the 2010 World Cup Finals.

The third one will be at the Bellville Velodrome.

Peter Cronjé, the city’s 2010 World Cup communications director, said they were making the fan parks available for the people who won’t be able to obtain match tickets.

As part of the agreement with the world soccer governing body, the city will install big screens at all official fan parks for residents to watch the matches live.

“This concept was highly successful during the Fifa 2006 World Cup held in Germany. We hope that it will also be roaring success in South Africa,” Cronjé said.

“There will also be viewing areas across the metropolitan area, as well as in towns all over the Western Cape.

“Apart from that, restaurants, bars and shopping malls will offer commercial viewing sites.”
