    VOB club nets top cross-country positions

    CROSS-country athletes of the VOB club made a clean sweep of the top three positions of the senior men’s race over 12 km in last Saturday afternoon’s 6th Wes?tern Province league meeting on the CPUT campus in Bellville South.

    The event was won in 37:01 by Siyabulela Qondiso of the VOB club, with his club mate Patrick Magadla 10 seconds adrift the runner-up in 37:11 and Tebello Poni, also of VOB, 3rd in 37:14. Anthony Godongwana (Celt, 5th in 38:07), Mzukile Silayi (Adid, 6th in 38:12), Abongile Snyman (Atl, 7th in 38:13), Monde Mpemnyama (Celt, 8th in 38:15), Patrick Ketelo (Mr Pr, 9th in 38:54) and Isaac Ikalaheng (Adid, 10th in 38:54) all managed to secure places among the top 10 finishers.

    Vuyolwethu Kayi (UWK) continued his winning ways in the 4 km race for senior men, this time in 13:29. Thanduluntu Magqasa (M. Spart, 3rd in 13:32) and Marks Mpekula (VOB, 4th in 13:33) also enjoyed a successful outing in the perfect weather conditions. Mpekula’s club mate Bulelani Bhebha won the race for boys u.19 over 8 km in 25:52.

    In the race for senior women over 8 km Zintle Xiniwe carried too many guns for her challengers.
