The lucky students and their teachers jetted off for a week to visit their sister school, Vandyke School, in England.

The Dreams and Teams is a three-year project sponsored by the British Council and Youth Sport Trust.

This was the first group to be sent to England since the partnership was formed in 2007.

The students will also visit David Beckham Soccer Academy.

The students were selected last year on the condition of passing their examinations. The learners will be participating in various sports at the school such as soccer, cricket, rugby and volley ball and they were chosen from grades 10 to 12.

Mr M.S Ismail, acting principal said: These students are young ambassadors for South Africa.

“The project is going to help them a lot to converse in English, but it is going to be tough since some are not comfortable in English. The trip will also open study opportunities for them,” he said

The two teachers from the school are visiting England as a result of the project. Ronnie Ngqaza, a student talking about the trip said: “It is a dream come true. There are few people who get this opportunity. I am one of the fortunate.

“ I want to make it worthwhile. I am not only going to represent myself, but my country and most of all my family. It is my first time going out of the country.” There are also other two schools from the Western Cape who are participating in the project.

The students and teachers are due to come back on Saturday.
