EVIL spirits are powerful and can cause somebody to commit suicide or be killed.
According to Sobantu Khubukeli a well-known traditional healer in Khayelitsha, these spirits can be sent through witchcraft or a witchdoctor to the targetted person.
He said a person who suffers from these spirits can be identified through sorcery (Ifufunyana).
The victim suddenly hears voi?ces and sees things other people cannot.
Khubukeli said the victims will hear these powerful voices calling their names and as a result force them to act differently or do something unusual.
This is the summary relating to the death of the Mayoyo twins under mysterious circumstances. They were suffering from what the family calls evil spirits.
Nyebo Brian Mayoyo and Khanya Bruce Mayoyo from F-163 in Khayelitsha were killed after throwing themselves in front of oncoming trains.
The brothers were well known in F-Section through participation youth activities. They even owned a barber-shop as means of earning an income.
Siyabulela Mayoyo, spokesperson for the family, said the problem started in 1998 when Khanya started having visions and hearing voices.
These voices then overwhelmed him and forced him to kill himself by throwing himself in front of an oncoming train in 2002.
Mayoyo said the unusual then happened when the second twin, Nyebo, sudenly suffered from the same evil spirits as his twin brother.
“He went through the same process as his brother and threw himself in front of an oncoming train at the very same spot where his brother died.”
This latest incident happened on 9 February at around 6 am.
Mayoyo said his family was called to identify the body when Ndyebo’s lifeless body was found next to the railway tracks.
Mayoyo described Ndyebo as very strong because he tried to resist the spirit and was very aggressive.
But he ultimately gave in and killed himself.
The funeral will take place on Saturday 18 February.
