    ROAD athletes of local clubs displayed splendid form in two Western Cape races in which they took part over the past week.

    On Freedom Day Tsungai Mwanengeni (Mr Pr) ran out winner in 50:29 of the Helderberg Harrier club’s annual Spook Hill race over 15 km at Somerset West. Bernard Dandadzi (RCS Gug, 2nd in 50:30), the Adidas duo of Wanda Roro (3rd and 1st junior in 52:10) and Velani Lusaseni (4th in 52:10), Ernest Ngakumbi (T.Mbiza, 5th in 52:11), Nicholas Rupanga (Celt, 6th in 53:39), and the Thomas Mbiza trio or Luvuyo Ntando (7th in 53:40), Alex Madikane (9th in 55:09) and Mandla Pangalele (10th in 55:13) also enjoyed a successful outing in the perfect weather conditions.

    . Last Thursday’s 21st annual Safari half-marathon at Wellington, which drew a field of more than 4000, was won in by Lindikhaya Mthangayi of Mr Price.

    After being challenged all the way by his in-form team mate Neo Molema, Mthangayi forged ahead to cross the line in 66:47. Molema was the runner-up in 67:31, with Zolile Bhitane (Ned) 3rd in 67:53.

    Also among the top ten finishers were Anthony Godongwana (Celt, 4th in 68:22), the Mr Price foursome of Avukile Ntongana (5th in 68:41), Makhosonke Fika (7th in 69:09), Tsungai Mwanengeni (8th in 70:15) and Sibusiso Mbingeleli (9th in 70:25), and Bonisile Ngculana (Atl, 10th in 71:03).

    Third in 85:28 in the women’s race was Bulelwa Mtshagi (Celt), with her club mates Thozama April and Busisiwe Matiwane, 5th in 88:59 and 9th 90:46
