    Fun on the farm

Maremmana, a new residential estate between Hermanus and Botrivier, was the venue for a fun family triathlon on Saturday, 31 December.? A very enthusiastic field of 93 competitors from all over South Africa, and even a few from England and Ireland, took part in the event.

The swim took off from the new floating summer house in the trout fishing dam, while the cyclists raced along the Karwyderskraal road.? The runners followed a course around the residential estate, through paddocks and grazing polo ponies.?

The morning ended in a relaxed atmosphere with families picnicking around the dam among the blue cranes in the private nature reserve.

The results of the day were as follows: In the half triathlon the individual winner was Tash Scot from Cape Town and the team winner was the Patterson family from the Hemel-en-Aarde valley.

The full triathlon was won by Robert Davison from Gauteng while the team event was won by Mel and Franje Visser and their friend, Francois Louw, all from Paarl. Prizes included picnic baskets from an estate agent, meal vouchers from Hermanus restaurants, vouchers from a surf shop and outdoor gear. All entrants received T-shirts. The farm has been contacted by the Western province triathlon association who wants to host a provincial tri-athlon there.
