    World class sailing

The Optimist sailing dinghy teams going to the World Championships in Turkey and the African Championships in Mauritius chose the Klein River lagoon for their final four-day training camp at the end of last week.

Hermanus Yacht Club hosted the teams with all the girls and boys being accommodated and catered for by the club. The World's team consists of five members of which two come from Hermanus Yacht Club ? Alex Thompson and Murray Willcocks.

The other three members are from Zeekoeivlei in Cape Town. The African's team consists of four girls and ten boys. The teams were extremely fortunate to have two top-level coaches: Dave Rae was a senior member of Team Shosholoza in the America's Cup and Andrea Giovannini an accomplished Optimist trainer in Europe.

Hermanus Yacht Club is an ideal venue to learn how to sail. The club has a junior training programme for youngsters interested in learning how to sail in a friendly, fun environment.
