Last Wednesday one of our reporters at the Hermanus Times phoned in sick after she experienced heavy stomach cramps and went to the doctor.

Kerry van Rensburg's facial expressions after she heard what the doctor said, could easily be seen as “America's most funny home-videos” with a bit of harsh reality and shock.

The doctor said: “You are not only pregnant, but you are also in labour!”

Kerry (42) could not believe what the doctor had just said, as she thought it was some kind of stomach bug, and although she felt quite bloated the past few months, she thought ? and hoped ? it was part of the hormonal menopause stages.

Her eldest is 17, the youngest, seven. Four hours later she gave birth to the most beautiful, healthy little girl weighing in at only 2,1 kg.

On Thursday the staff at Hermanus Times phoned her as no-one was aware of what had happened. When asked if her tummy feels better, she answered: “I just had a baby!”

Although shocked, she is very happy about the little miracle and her family is in the clouds about this bundle of joy.
