    24/07/2008 10:53 AM - (SA)
First woman treasurer in 21 years
    Chris van Wyk

At the 72nd annual general meeting of the Hermanus Bowling Club held on 27 June the following members were elected to run the club?s affairs for the 2008/2009 season: Colin Sinclair (president); Tish Bryce (Snr vice-president); Johan Schwartz (Jnr vice-president); Cedric Taylor (secretary); Doreen Meyer (treasurer); Adele Levitan (game secretaries - women); Francis Maytham (game secretaries - men).

Various managers to assist the committee in the smooth running of the club's activites have also been accepted. The out-going committee and all other members who contributed to the success of the club over the past year were sincerely thanked for their support and hard work.

It is the fist time in 21 years that a woman has been brave enough to handle the treasurer's department. Well done Doreen.

    Club champions prize-giving

The great fighting spirit of the local members was evident during the season's club competitions and all the winners justly deserved their prizes. Unfortunately not all the prize-winners were present at the ceremony but to one and all - well done. The game secretaries Ena and Pieter Linde definitely enjoyed hading over the prizes to the opposite sexes.

Women/Men: Club singles champions: Ena Linde / Jan de Wet; handicaps singles: Annatjie van Vuuren / Bruwer Scannall; novices singles: Mariken Naudé / Peter Harvey; no pairs: Adele Levitan and Mariken Naudé / Douw Franken and Steven Minnaar; drawn pairs: Adele Livitan and Mariken Naudé / Lionel Almendro and Cassie Carstens; mixed pairs: Dave Buckley and Marie Nel.

    Bonnievale Classic

It was high class bowling all round on Friday, 18 and Saturday, 19 July when 16 teams from Western Province and Boland bowling clubs playing in the Bonnievale Classic. Winning their first two games of 18 ends each inspired Amanda and her team to keep their good form - they won their next two games and so also the much-envied trophy.

It was a grand slam for them as they were the only team to win all four games of the tournament with a final score of 33 plus 38. Congratulations to Amanda and Pieter Meyer and Eddie and Matty Kelbrick.
