    Be practical

    St John Springer, info@planetmarketing.co.za:

Why is it that whenever someone outside the proverbial circle of chosen ones has the audacity to express their opinion about certain pertinent Hermanus issues, somebody must use the Hermanus Times to lambaste/criticise such opinion?

I refer to “Disappointing letter” by mayor Theo Beyleveldt (HT 06/06). I begin to wonder whether the honourable mayor even read the letter “Race 'disruptive'” by Eleanor Welsh (HT 30/05).

Most businesses were unaware that there were going to be disruptive road closures especially on the holiday when struggling business owners are battling to earn a decent living.

The Wheels and Runners race was a fait accompli and the people of Hermanus were expected to just accept it.

I suggest that he takes some time out to speak to them to get the true picture.

Don't misunderstand the intentions of people like Welsh, they are not insensitive and are sympathetic to the cause but please let us be practical. The race can be run successfully to the benefit of all parties and consideration should be given to holding it in a more suitable location.

As far as the public toilet saga is concerned, we in Hermanus all know that the present state of affairs is totally untenable. The temporary toilets on Market Square have been leaking for over a month despite the fact that this has been reported to the authorities concerned.

This in itself must tell you something, and incidentally these facilities have only four toilets to cater for the crowds of people that visit the square every day and they are not wheelchair friendly.
