    Leave our baboons

JL van Schoor, PO Box 1301, Hermanus:

For reasons that I am unable to fathom three to five of our local baboon monitors spend a good deal of time on our local golf course. No, not playing golf - they chase the baboons and their babies up the trees and then take up positions under the trees to keep them there. This is cruel and environmentally unfriendly besides being a great waste of time.

The baboons have every right to be on the golf course, it is one of their traditional feeding grounds and the golfers for the most part welcome them and enjoy their antics. The estate fencing is designed to keep out criminals, not animals.

I suggest that these particular monitors could be better employed protecting property owners' assets but please leave the baboons on our golf course.
