Jill Toogood, 40 Oak Terrace, Main Rd, Hermanus:
During the course of last week, it was necessary for me to take an elderly friend to the local provincial hospital in an emergency situation. Within minutes of arriving, my friend was transferred by wheelchair, from the car to the trauma unit, where a young female doctor attended to her immediately.
It was after hours but the casualty area was still crowded with patients being cared for by doctors, numerous nurses and even the medical superintendent was assisting where possible. I would like to thank and congratulate Dr Blankenberg and her staff for the time and consideration they were, quite obviously, showing to all who needed help, especially my aged friend.
Hermanus should be proud and grateful to have such a facility at their disposal.
There is certainly nothing wrong with state health in our little seaside village.
