    Join the club to Montagu

Notwithstanding the cold there are still some very disciplined cyclists who persist in battling the elements early each morning irrespective of cold and strong winds.

It was wonderful to see so may keen cyclists peddling along on Saturday morning, enjoying the sunny weather. During the summer months most cyclists are keen to participate, especially in the build-up to the Argus Cycle Race and thereafter they tend to slack down as we head into winter.

This is unfortunate, especially if one takes into account the time and effort it takes getting into shape. In addition to all the health benefits, one of the greatest benefits of cycling is the freedom it bestows on the rider. It is a freedom that can only really be understood by those who ride the open road.

Winter cycling times: Saturdays and Sunday mornings from 07:30 at Engen Garage and a funride at 15:00 on a Sunday afternoon for mountain bikers.

Riding, at whatever level of intensity, is an easy introduction to a pattern of regular exercise, which has wide-ranging benefits. Cycling is a low-impact activity, which is less harmful to the joints and can be practised at any age.

If you take into consideration what we are currently paying for petrol it might be a good idea to invest in a bicycle. One of these days it might be our only means of transport besides a donkey cart!

This month the Hermanus Cycle Club is planning a cycling tour to Montagu that will only be open to members.

We are planning the event for the weekend of 1-2 August on the Tafelkop Farm.

Accommodation, consisting of bungalows and camping sites will be available at R70 p.p. per night.

    Bring the whole family along.

Alternative accommodation can be arranged in Montagu.

Depending on the interest and for those who need a challenge, some of the riders might even be interested in cycling to Montagu from Hermanus.

Please contact Leon at Hermanus Cycles on 082 932 3938 for further info. Once again we would like to invite all cyclists to join the Hermanus Cycling Club.

For further info contact Heather on 083 285 2777.
