SIGNAL HILL is one of Cape Town's most stunning stop-and-view points but it also has a name as a notorious hijacking hot-spot, as another couple found out last Saturday.

According to Captain André Traut, communications officer of the Cape Town SAPS, a woman and man aged 20 and 21 were parked at Signal Hill on Saturday, 28 October at 00:30.

Traut says the couple was approached by three men who forced them out of their VW Golf at gunpoint. "During this time another suspect must have joined them because the couple were robbed by four men who took all their belongings, as well as their cellphones, before speeding off in the couple's car," says Traut.

Thanks to a witness who saw the incident and phoned the police, the SAPS responded immediately. Shortly afterwards, Constable Edward van der Westhuizen and Constable Gideon Bosman arrested two of the suspects, aged 18 and 19, who are believed to be from Salt River and Woodstock. The couple's Golf was recovered, as well as a silver-grey Toyota Tazz get-away car, and most of the couple?s belongings except the one cellphone, Traut says.

"The police officers also found a toy gun inside the car which was used in the robbery," adds Traut. The other two men, aged 20 and 21, are still at large. "Cape Town SAPS management would like to congratulate members Van der Westhuizen and Bosman on their swift response, which led to the arrest of the perpetrators," says Traut.

"The SAPS would also like to thank the members of the community who phoned in, which led to the quick and effective response."
