ACTING on complaints from the community, the Grassy Park Police raided the Grassy Park home of a police officer and found 31 packets of tik on the premises.
The raid took place at 22:00 on Saturday, 2 December after members of the public had reported alleged drug dea?ling to the Grassy Park Police as well as to the local Community Police Forum.
Four people were arrested in the raid: the 38-year-old police officer, his 26-year-old wife, an 18-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man. All four have been charged with dealing in drugs.
The police officer is stationed at Hout Bay SAPS but lives in Grassy Park.
Philip Bam, chairperson of the CPF, says police officers are expected to protect and uplift the community.
"Police officers take an oath to uphold the law."
Senior Superintendent Christopher Jones, the Station Commissioner at Grassy Park SAPS, says he intends to send a letter to the Station Commissio?ner where the officer is based.
"There will be an internal investigation which will take place. A disciplinary hearing will follow," Jones says.
Bam says that the community is pleased about the fast reaction time of the police in the matter.
"They did not ignore the complaints. It is good to know that the police can act against other police officers.
"The willingness to act against a member of the police shows that no person is above the law."
The suspects appeared in court on Monday, 4 December.
Jones urges the community to come forward with information about criminal activities in the area.
"It is only with the help of the community that we can combat the scourge of drug dealing and drug abuse," he says.
He gives the assurance that all information conveyed to the police will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
