The Fish Hoek 1st X1 were involved in a-nother nailbiter when they drew with Police at the Police grounds on Saturday. In a match marred by controversy, a late start due to a mysteriously wet track and bad sportsmanship, Police needed 7 runs to win in the last over.
A single off the first ball was followed by 2 dot balls and then a huge hit off the 4th ball that was sailing over the ropes.
Ryan Bekker, covering lots of ground and seemingly apprearing from nowhere, took a magnificent catch over his shoulder to save a certain 6 and, thus, the game as well.
Earlier, Fish Hoek, with Pedersen (40) and Chris Lyons, provided the resistance, then Nick Hearne (37) and keeper Lyle Bowditch (26) added 73 runs for the 8th wicket to set Police a target of 140 in 22 overs. Grant Snowball got the breakthrough, taking 3/13 to keep Fish Hoek in the game and leaving Police on 135/7.
Steve Brandt's 2nd X1 were the only local side to win this weekend and they did it in fine style winning by 7 wickets. Leading by 99 runs on the 1st innings and forcing Edgemead to follow on, they bowled the opposition out for 117.
Brendon Wainright led the way, taking 4/12, with Andre Olwagen taking 2/38 (to give him 6 in the match) and Brandt 2/36.
Ocean View were rolled for 67 runs (vs Bluebells), with Jerome Atkins getting 31 of them!
They fought back, with Tasliem Manuel taking 4/23 and Margo Daniels (3/15) doing the damage. Skipper Theo Lamb continued his good form, hitting a fine 87 out of 155 but it was not enough and they went down by 7 wickets.
The Fish Hoek 3rds got thumped by Bell-ville. Starting the day with deficit of 94, they crumbled to 24/6 before Harvey (42) and a fine knock of 58 from Hansie Linde lent some respectability and avoided the follow-on. They lost by 9 wickets.
