FISH HOEK came second to Durban in the Castle National Surf Lifesaving Championships, held from Thursday, 23 to Saturday, 25 March on Amanzimtoti beach on the south coast of KwaZulu-Natal.
The Fish Hoek team of 65 members - u/16, u/19 and senior male and female competitors - logged 895 points in the championships and were pipped narrowly into second overall aggregate position by Durban Surf, who recorded a total of 1 083 points.
The third-place winners, Durban Battery Beach's Pirates Surf Lifesaving Club, recorded 544 points. Six out of the 30 competing clubs failed to score.
Rising star on the South African lifesa-ving scene, Kimmi Brugmann (20), brought an impressive bag of five senior gold medals back to Fish Hoek and was undoubtedly the Western Cape's most successful competitor at the 2006 nationals.
However, coach Godfrey Mockè says the most impressive individual senior compe-titors were undoubtedly Fish Hoek's national team member Eloise van Geyssen (21), aptly dubbed "The Tiger", who dominated all senior ladies surf swimming events, and club team-mate Jasper Mockè (20), who won gold as South Africa's 2006 senior Iron Man champion.
