ONE man's dream and perseverance can change things for the better, as Juda Nkosi, a Masiphumelele resident and security supervisor for Lake Security, has proven through his work in setting up a soccer club in Masiphumelele.
In 2000, Juda got some like-minded individuals together and formed The Zulus Football Club, named so because all its members were Zulu. However, when more players joined, the club changed its name to All Nations to reflect the involvement of different groups.
Through its affiliation with the District Organisation in Ocean View, All Nations Football Club is an official member of the Western Province branch of the South African Football Association.
All Nations has progressed to such an extent that it now has two teams playing in the season - one in the Premier League and the other in the first league. In 2000, the club?s only team ended 17th in the ratings. Since then the two teams have improved to the extent that they both finish within the first three positions.
Juda has been involved with soccer in one way or another for 15 years. He has attended coaching clinics run by Jomo Sono and has regularly played for his own team. As manager, coach, trainer and player, Juda remains an inspiration to all in his club.
The executive committee of the club works tirelessly towards raising funds and sponsorships and getting the players to their match venues.
Earlier this year, Juda's home was broken into and all the players' soccer kits, kept there for safekeeping, were stolen. While the executive committee members were desperately trying to raise money to replace the kits, a White Knight in the person of Siegfried Dietrich entered the picture.
Dietrich, a resident at The Lake Estate, just happens to be the manager of the German International Women's Soccer Team. Juda and the captains of the two teams were invited to his house, where they received two full sets of kits and three soccer balls.
Dietrich also undertook to sponsor new boots for the two teams.
The club hopes other Valley residents will help - it needs sponsorship to cover the cost of putting numbers on the new tops, acknowledging Dietrich's contribution on the tops, financial assistance for the payment of dues, and storage space for its kits. Please phone Juda Nkosi on 785-3538.
